Hello Spring

I’m so in love with the weather right now … I finished exams 4 days ago, and all I’ve been doing is roaming the streets of Kingston, checking out galleries, parks, different spots along the lake, and enjoying many friends’ company for the last time. Lots of emotions - very bizzare time. It’s also been the best time of my life. I’ve been listening to a combination of songs, new and old, I thought I might share the ear-candy. Big ups to C-Devs and Neon Hearts Club for inspiring some of the choices.

DANCE! DANCE! DANCE! DANCE!

black kids

Very rarely do remixes get me all worked up, but I’ve been listening to the Twelves’ remix of Black Kids’ I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You nonstop for the past couple of days and I’m just astounded. I wasn’t familiar with the original, so I checked it out afterwards. It’s enjoyable enough, but suffers from muddy vocals. The remix brings the vocals up in the mix and amps up the actual ‘dance’ I expected from the title. It still maintains the lovelorn nature of the original, but brings a ready for the floor vibe as well. Infectious as the plague, this is.

Black Kids - I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You (The Twelves Remix)

And since this has become about dancing, it may be appropriate to include the Justice video for DVNO. Somehow I forgot about the song after my initial runthrough of †, but the video got me going again. It’s fairly similar to the clip for D.A.N.C.E., albeit with colourful words instead of T-shirts.

Dancing in Janvier

Agyness Deyn

As I sit here on the plane flying home for Christmas I am fantasizing about my ideal New Year’s — perhaps this sudden daydream has been sparked by the December issue of British Vogue “the Glamour Issue” that is placed in the seat pocket in front of me…. So I decide to pick it up and have a little read. The features include subjects ranging from glamorous people, to home décor, recipes and vacation spots… all the most ‘glamorous’ of course… and then I come across the party feature: “Golden Age of Couture”-the party of the year in London with guests such as Kate Moss, Mario Testino and the always cool, Agyness Deyn, who to me, represents the quintessential ‘it’ girl of 2007. The moment I come across this photo, my mind instantly conjures up another image of Agyness — one that is in my lookbook on style.com — from ‘Boombox’, London’s coolest, most fashion forward nightclub. …. If only I could spend my New Years there hanging with Agyness, Henry Holland and all of the other East London hipsters who will most likely be decked in the latest Hedi Slimane, Christopher Kane and Comme Des Garcons…. So where am I going with all of this??? I swear there is a point to this story and it DOES have to do with music… not fashion… although… music is a part of fashion and fashion a part of music… the two go hand in hand….clothing styles are inspired by music and music is inspired by fashion and style…. So really this post is 100% appropriate for Cavacool… but to the point!!!!!!! Spending New Year’s in a fabulous club with fabulously dressed, cool people would be amazing. However, it would not be complete without fabulous music to carry everyone through the evening…. Good music really is the backbone for a fun party… and New Year’s is an occasion where music is of the utmost importance… SO, I have compiled here a list of songs that I would hope to hear this coming New Year’s Eve…. whether I’m at Boombox, Lax (with Cory & all the Cobrasnake wannabees), or in my own basement. These tracks will make for an amazing time with friends and family and hopefully an unreal night of dancing into Janvier…

Minuit Jacuzzi (Data remix)- TEPR

Tenderoni (MSTRKRFT remix)- Chromeo

I Am Somebody (Montreal Version)- DJ Mehdi feat. Chromeo

Camera (Sebastian remix)- Editors

Call the Shots- Girls Aloud

Tony the Beat- The Sounds

Shock Box- Dragonette

Nighttiming- Coconut Records

Get Lucky (MSTRKRFT remix)- New Young Pony Club

Drink Juice Like (Demo)- Big Face

DVNO (LA Riots Bootleg remix)- Justice

Happy New Year’s Eve (in 2 days…)… dance, dance, dance into Janvier!!

Neon Hearts for Teenage Boys

The Teenagers

When I first began writing this post I was really excited and thought I was going to have a bunch of amazing remixes of one of the fall’s most talked about indie tracks, Homecoming by The Teenagers. However, after endless searching and downloading I didn’t find any that I particularly loved…Maybe I had set my expectations too high??! Every mix I found seemed to have removed the Teenagers’ raw, catchy melody and replaced it with a bunch of random awkward beats….. like really bad versions of Simian Mobile Disco…. Or something like that….booh. On a more positive note, my failure with the Homecoming remixes led me to other greatness from the London/Parisian trio- remixes they have done of other artists. And WOW…. I was blown away… truly amazed! My favourite is probably their remix of Brooklyn based, Au Revoir Simone’s, “Fallen Snow”…. Since I found this song I have been listening to it on repeat…. I’m listening to it right now in fact… it’s THAT good…. VRAIMENT…. This may be a little bit of a stretch, but when I played it for the first time I sort of felt like I was listening to a mellow Jacques Lu Cont remix… maybe it’s the emphasized base…. I don’t know…In any case, The Teenagers get three giant neon hearts from moi for these COOL remixes.

Homecoming - The Teenagers
Starlett Johansson (Narctrax Remix) - The Teenagers
City (The Teenagers Remix) - Lo-Fi-Fnk
Fallen Snow (The Teenagers Remix) - Au Revoir Simone

    “…And ve are French†”

    Ed Banger Crew

Ok, so I know Ed Banger is old news to some….. but they have never been discussed on Ca Va Cool before….. SO……… une petite histoire… The French electro label, Ed Banger Records, that was founded just four years ago by Pedro Winter (aka Busy P and Daft Punk’s manager) has only eight signed artists AND they are all INCREDIBLE. Oui oui. Incredible, I lurve them all. The favourites of Ed Rec, Jus†ice (made up of Frenchmen, Xavier de Rosnay & Gaspard Augé), are currently on their first world tour and I was lucky enough to see them live at Metropolis in Montreal this past October. The show was insane! They also recently won two well-deserved awards at the MTV European Music Awards (Video Star & Best New French Artist) félicitations Jus†ice!!!! Ok ok…… the MUUUUSIQUE…. Jus†ice pretty much sounds like hmmm… Jackson 5 mixed with Daft Punk and….. Metallica??…They create a sound that blends electro with a clear rock influence and some of their remixes have a definite 70s pop vibe…… My description really isn’t doing them any justice though (no pun intended).

….So here are a few/alot of my favourite Jus†ice songs, remixes, etc. as well as a lil’ intro by Mr. Oizo for Ed Rec. Vol. 2 that was released in March…. It features all the artists…… Check em’out….VIVE LA FRANCE!

    Phantom, Pt.II- Justice [MP3]
Theme From Vicarious Bliss (Justice remix)- Vicarious Bliss [MP3]
    Intra- Mr. Oizo [MP3]
    D.A.N.C.E. (MSTRKRFT remix)- JUSTICE [MP3]

p.s. all the artists have myspaces…… voici the links…
