Bonjour cavacoolers. It’s been a while. I’ve been in France for a few weeks now scoping out the music scene and I have to say that I haven’t discovered anything fantastic. Well, at least nothing that I wasn’t aware of before. However, if I had to choose three songs to define my trip so far, it would be the following.
They may not necessarily be new tracks…. but they are great. Hope you enjoy them.
Oh and I will soon be posting about a little music festival I hit up last weekend. I’m lazy now though and my internet connection is…. well soon to be non- existent.
Lykke and Ladyhawke are two of my favourites right now so I was ecstatic to come across these lovely remixes. While there have been tons of mixes floating around of both gals’ tunes I found about ZERO that I liked. And then along comes Mr. Falke with his deliciously disco-ish edits. They are fantastic.
As I’m sure you are all aware, Ed Rec Vol III will be released May 26th. Eeeeeeee!!!! It feels too far away. I don’t like waiting. Especially not for something that I know will be génial. In the mean time Feadz has put together a little mash-up of what is to come and it is so so yummy. It is Steak-Frites deliciousness.
ps. Uffie is getting married to some lamo named Andre?! She is supposed to marry Feadz!!! They were ed rec lovebirds and he is pretty much responsible for her career! In the words of Full House’s Stephanie Tanner…”How rude!”. anyways…i could continue this rant all day long but instead i’ll leave you with the track-list. voila…
1. Mr. Oizo - Yves
2. Busy P - To Protect And Entertain (feat. Murs)
3. Mr. Flash - Over The Top
4. SebastiAn - Dog
5. Uffie - Robot Oeuf
6. Justice - Stress (Auto Remix)
7. Mr. Oizo - Minuteman’s Pulse
8. DJ Mehdi - Pocket Piano
9. Krazy Baldhead - No Cow, No Pow
10. DSL - Find Me In The World
11. Feadz - Back It Up (feat. Spank Rock)
12. So Me - Decalcomania
Since the DVNO ep and video just came out I thought I’d throw this one in too. It’s probably one of the best remixes of this song. Surkin seems to be the only one who really attempted to do his own thing with the re-working.
Who knew the 80s synthesizer could sound so COOL? I guess these artists did. If you like Kavinsky, you will have a hard time hating on the Valerie crew. They are my latest Parisian obsession and basically a neontastic music collective in western France. Maethelvin & the Outrunners= my favorites. Cool Feelings (Maethelvin remix)- The Outrunners
Today is such a wonderful day. My favourite record label, Ed Banger Records, is turning 5 years old!! Yay. And to add to this wonderfulness, some hardcore Justice fans made their own music video for Phantom II — one of my favourite songs on the album — and it’s kind of good. The whole video concept is some little girl’s birthday party. Her cake says Justice on it and the pictures on the wall dance — like in Harry Potter. I posted la chanson a while back but here is the video for your viewing pleasure.
And in keeping with the theme of little girls in videos……
I am OBSESSED with Larry Tee’s new song, I Love You. Check out the video. Some people are totally loving it. Personally, I don’t understand why little girls in electro videos are all the rage right now….I guess being 7 is like the new ‘in’ thing.
Here is one of my favourite remixes from les Ed Bangers, tis slightly old…(way back circa 2007)…but I still love it and it’s never been cavacooled before.
I have to include this last song because it fits perfectly with the ‘cool 7 year old girls’ theme of my post. This girl, Cerise, was a French child pop star in the 80s. And she had really cool crimped hair.
In keeping with the Christmas spirit of things….. nothing about this song is Christmasy at all…. BUT…. it is fabulous, fun and it makes me feel good the way Christmas does.
Another amazing remix by my favourite Parisian dj duo…Justice…. this time remixing British alternative/new rave rockers, Klaxons. If you lurve 70s pop than you will heart this song… i swear!! The kids at Missingtoof pointed out a similarity between this remix and the Doobie Brothers’ 70s classic, ‘What a Fool Believes’.
It’s time for some more Parisian love kids… pour YELLE. I don’t really have much to say about her. But if you enjoy good old fashioned bubble gum electro/pop (avec les saucy lyrics), than you will love her stuff. Actually, what really got me into her is the video for TEPR’s remix of her new single, ‘A Cause Des Garçons’. This video will make you want to throw on some high-tops, skinny jeans and rock out to your fave episode of Saved by the Bell….
If that wasn’t enough YELLE pour toi, check out these tracks from her new album, Pop-Up…
