Self-described as “Sweden’s and the world’s finest purveyor of pop music,” Labrador Records certainly does have some excellent arguments for the title. Sweden is probably the best, or at very least the most consistent source of indie pop in the world today and Labrador Records is located its indie capital (Gothenburg) generating a plethora (that’s right) of Indie Pop, Shoegaze, and New Order inspired output. Amongst its large roster, Labrador is home to three of Sweden’s most established indie pop bands, Acid House Kings, Club 8, and The Legends, all of which are the creation of Johan Angergård, the founder of Labrador. Basically everything the label puts out is pure gold.
Their newest offering, which has made for some enjoyable listening/head bobbing/in-chair dancing as I wait for the new Suburban Kids with Biblical Names and Radio Dept. albums, is “M.A.G.I.C” by The Sound of Arrows. They seem to be a young band on the label, but as their second single proves, their age hasn’t stopped them from creating really catchy dancefloor ready indie pop. It’s really poppy and has a good dancebeat to give it build. The chorus of kids singing doesn’t hurt either. Keep a look out for their debut album Puzzles & Wonders coming out in late March.
