Maybe I was generalizing since Spoon is so distinctive, one of those bands you know by just by the sound, but I think it was more a response to how I couldn't get excited at all during this album.

Spoon don't need to reinvent themselves each album to sound original, especially since their MO is simplicity. Listen to Girls Can Tell or Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga and try to tell me they sound the same. Every song/verse/riff is equal parts classic, wonderful, and unique.

That being said, Transference may be the first time in for evah that Spoon sound a bit tired. Haven't made up my mind yet, but it hasn't packed the same punch upon first listen as previous albums.

Spoon is one of the few bands that can get away with releasing the same album over and over again.
